With over 40 years as a professional artist, I have explored many different drawing mediums, although the graphite pencil has always been my favourite tool. Much of my work has focused on wildlife, nature studies, and found objects; subjects that let me combine precision with a deep appreciation for detail.
In the past few years, I have returned to my love of the imaginative and fantastical. My drawings often blend the eye of a naturalist with a mechanical twist, moving from biomechanical inspired visions to the intricate texture of animal fur, from reimagined folk tales to the hidden stories behind everyday objects.
I work primarily in graphite, but I enjoy enriching it with subtle touches of colour pencil, water colour washes or organic stains. To me, drawing is about finding that space where realism and imagination meet and inviting others to discover new stories in every line and shadow.
In recent years I have expanded my art practice through solo exhibitions, opening new directions for my art in Australia and internationally. Through my drawings, I see the world as a kind of clockwork construct, intricate, precise, and full of hidden mechanisms waiting to be uncovered.
Working with the simplest of tools, the graphite pencil, I create freehand drawings that explore natural forms and everyday objects, often with a mechanical twist. I love pushing graphite to its limits, from razor-sharp contours to soft, velvety shadows, with occasional touches of colour that blur the boundaries between realism and imagination.
For me, drawing is a way to build a unique reality: meticulous, imaginative, and always inviting viewers to pause, look closer, and discover something new.
